Brynmor Haskell (University of Amsterdam, Netherlands) The role of gravitational waves in LMXBs I will present several gravitational wave (GW) emission mechanisms that may be at work in Low Mass X-ray Binaries (LMXBs) and discuss the suggestion that the observed spin periods of these systems may be set by GW torques. I will show how X-ray observations can shed light on whether some of these systems are indeed emitting gravitational waves and help constrain models of the disc/magnetosphere interaction. Finally I will discuss how future X-ray observations can constrain GW emission models, thus helping to identify possible targets for next generation GW detectors, and also constrain neutron star interior physics.
